With the future of cruising about to arrive, we set out to investigate why Quantum of the Seas is set to break all records with so many one-of-a-kind activities never seen before on a cruise liner. Here are the top 5 experiences worth talking about:
Super Fast Internet
Remember a time when cruising meant getting away from all the hustle and bustle? Blissfully unaware of work building up at the office, no mobile phones buzzing with messages or laptops cluttering up luggage, you were able to simply tune out and kick back. But times have changed, and the internet is now a major part of our lives which many of us can barely live without checking e-mail and texts on a day to day basis, let alone going on a 7 day cruise without being able to get a Facebook update. Yet, while the internet is offered on virtually all seagoing cruise ships, it is still maddeningly unreliable and slow. …Not anymore!
Quantum of the Seas has been equipped with superfast internet which will work at the same speed as getting cable at your home. It is the first ship where you will be able to FaceTime easily, plus you’ll be able to download your favourite content and music, plus you’ll get access to special Apps that will help you find your way around the ship. Internet packages start from $120 for 3 days, which is enough time for you to check in with the rest of the world. The rest of the time you should be relaxing!
The NorthStar
Located on the top deck the NorthStar will lift you 300-feet above the level of the sea, taking you over the ocean to give you a great birds eye view of the ship. Those scared of heights will probably take a step back form the glass when the arm is fully extended. The observation pod is the same design as the famous London Eye and fits up to 14 guests. Rides on the NorthStar are complimentary, with the exception of sunrise, sunset, and private trips which have a charge, and can be reserved online in advance.
RipCord by iFly
For the first time ever you can experience the thrill of skydiving out at sea with the introduction of Ripcord by iFly, the latest Royal Caribbean innovation that allows guests of all ages to fly within a wind tunnel. This is another great adventure activity that is offered as complimentary service for guests onboard.
Everyone receives a 45 min crash course before diving in to experience the 200 km/hr wind speeds. There are no queues to wait as you just register for the ride and your flying time is then allocated. Extra minutes can be purchased when you check in.
Bionic Bar
Shaken or stirred, the cocktail concoctions are endless at the Bionic Bar on board. This fabulous new concept does away with the old-fashioned inconvenience of having to shout to get your bartender’s attention by eliminating the bartender altogether. Two industrial robots prepare, mix, shake, and/or stir your drink and bring it to you. You can choose one of the more popular mixes or you can simply experiment with your own concoctions. The best part is the experience is included within your drinks package, and there are NO surcharges!
Vistarama
Without a doubt, the entertainment on board is amazing. On one hand you have the very best of Broadway with the full set of Mama Mia playing in the Main Theatre. Then you have Vistarama! This is an awe-inspiring innovation that transforms the floor-to-ceiling sea view into any scene, real or imagined. It looks as real as the world you know—but with fantastical scenes like nothing you’ve ever dreamed. The performance, Saltwater, is equally futuristic with a mix of song and dance all blended into one stunning show that tantalizes all the senses.
