With Laura Astone
Anyone who loves to cruise would admit that Celebrity Solstice is indeed impressive – both to look at and to experience. Even by Celebrity’s high standards, Solstice is a treat. With high ceilings and expansive lines, she is more like a floating palace than just a cruise ship or a resort. “Here, bigger is definitely better, and the fact that you can do as little or as much with your day as you please,” says Laura Astone, who recently returned from her cruise adventure to the South Pacific aboard this magnificent cruise liner. We asked Laura to give us a glimpse into some of her tour highlights:
What was your favourite restaurant experience?
“Specialty dining at Tuscan Grille during the day was great to take advantage of as it costs only $25 instead of $45 to enjoy delicious food and the stunning panoramic view out to sea. Yes, the menu is adapted for lunch but the servings are plentiful.
The main dining room was also a real treat. We had organised Celebrity select dining which meant we didn’t have an allocated dining time and could just turn up at the dining room and be seated. We generally had the same waiter throughout the cruise, who made us feel like royalty. It was wonderful, nothing was ever a hassle for them and they seem to really love what they do.”
What was the best thing you did on board?
“Spending time in the solarium (the adults only retreat) and definitely the live shows every night. From Neil Diamond impersonators to Amazing acrobatic artists, there was always something to do on board.”
What was your accommodation like?
“I was in a balcony cabin on Deck 7. The cabin was well planned, where the large bed could also be converted into 2 twin beds, a sitting area and then a nice sized balcony. There was lots of storage and a crazy amount of hangers in the closet! The ensuite and shower were full size like any hotel! There was also no ugly shower curtain either. A real highlight!”
What did you enjoy most about your cruise?
“I enjoyed the fact you could do as little or as much with your day as you pleased, the fact I only had to unpack once and finally the abundance of amazing fine dining food.”
